 Position: Program Resource Development Specialist – Grant Writer 

Department: Finance 

Reports To: CFO

Hours: 40 hours per week (specific hours are flexible) 

POSITION OVERVIEW: 

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Grant Writer to join our dedicated team at Unity Parenting and Counseling. As a vital member of our organization, you will play a key role in securing funding opportunities to support our critical initiatives in child welfare (foster care) and providing assistance to individuals aged 18-24 experiencing homelessness. Your exceptional writing skills, attention to detail, and ability to convey our mission and impact will be essential in helping us achieve our goals of improving the lives of vulnerable youth and young adults. 

This is the first hire for us in what we hope will be a development department within two to three years. While primarily raising funds through grants writing, the person will help set the foundational strategy for UP&C’s fundraising. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Strategy and Planning: 

Contribute to the development of a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with the organization’s goals and funding needs. 

Participate in strategic discussions to identify new funding opportunities and potential areas for program expansion. 

2. Grant Research and Identification: 

• Conduct thorough research to identify potential grant opportunities from various sources including foundations, government agencies, corporations, and other relevant funding entities. 

Stay updated on the latest trends, regulations, and funding priorities in child welfare, foster care, and homelessness prevention. 

3.Collaboration and Communication:

•Work closely with program staff, finance, and leadership to gather data about projects,initiatives, and outcomes to develop clear, concise, and compelling grant proposals.

•Effectively communicate the organization’s mission, goals, and impact to funders throughwritten and verbal communication.

4.Grant Application Submission:

•Prepare and submit grant applications within specified deadlines, ensuring all requireddocuments, forms, and supporting materials are included and accurate.

•Maintain meticulous records of submitted applications, correspondence, and outcomes.

5.Relationship Building:

•Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with existing funders and grant-makingorganizations.

•Identify and establish connections with potential new funding partners through networking andoutreach efforts.

6.Reporting and Compliance:

•Ensure accurate and timely submission of grant progress reports, financial reports, and otherdocumentation as required by funders.

•Monitor grant-funded programs to ensure compliance with grant terms and conditions.

7.Events and Volunteers:

•Develop plans for one major fundraiser to occur by the end of May 2024

•Work with community agencies, churches/synagogues, schools, etc. to secure 10 volunteers towork on programming as well as social media and fundraising activities.

•Participate in the agency’s Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) Plan

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education Experience: 

•Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., communications, social work, nonprofit management)is preferred; equivalent work experience will also be considered.

Proven experience in grant writing for nonprofit organizations, particularly in the fields of childwelfare, foster care, and homelessness services.

•Strong understanding of nonprofit program operations, outcomes measurement, and impactassessment.

•Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to convey complex ideas in acompelling and accessible manner.

•Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlinessimultaneously.

•Proficiency in researching and identifying potential funding sources using databases, onlineresources, and other tools.

•Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate effectivelywith diverse teams and stakeholders.

•Familiarity with grant management software and tools is a plus.

•Passion for the organization’s mission and a commitment to making a positive impact on thelives of vulnerable youth and young adults.

COMPENSATION: 

The salary range for this position is $60,000-$65,000. The employee benefits package includes health insurance plan, paid time off (PTO) and more.
